Honoring Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Founded on December 4, 1906, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. holds the distinction of being the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American men. The fraternity was conceived by seven visionary founders known as the “Seven Jewels” who were determined to create an organization that would advocate for the rights and dignity of African Americans. Alpha Phi Alpha’s mission has always been to develop leaders, promote brotherhood and academic excellence, and provide service and advocacy for our communities.

Alpha Kappa Alpha’s foundation is built on the pillars of sisterhood and service. With over a century of history, the sorority has grown to include more than 1,000 chapters worldwide and has a membership exceeding 300,000 women. The organization has been instrumental in supporting educational advancement, social justice, and economic development.

Alpha Kappa Alpha’s service programs are extensive and impactful. Signature initiatives like the Educational Advancement Foundation, which provides scholarships and grants, and the Emerging Young Leaders program, which focuses on leadership development for middle school girls, showcase the sorority’s commitment to making a difference. Alpha Kappa Alpha’s environmental stewardship programs also demonstrate their dedication to global sustainability.
