South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn to Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a ceremony at the White House today, President Joe Biden announced that U.S. Congressman James E. Clyburn (SC-06) will be honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The award, which is the nation’s highest civilian honor, will be presented on Friday, May 3, 2024.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is bestowed upon individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, as well as to world peace or other significant societal, public, or private endeavors.

Celebrating Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is a historically African American fraternity known for its commitment to service and excellence. The fraternity’s motto, “Friendship is Essential to the Soul,” underscores its focus on brotherhood and community.

Omega Psi Phi was founded by three Howard University students and their faculty advisor, with the aim of promoting academic excellence and social uplift. Over the years, the fraternity has grown to include over 750 chapters and has initiated more than 250,000 members. Notable members include Langston Hughes, Michael Jordan, and Steve Harvey.

Omega Psi Phi’s community service programs are extensive and impactful. The fraternity’s initiatives include scholarships for deserving students, social action programs, and health awareness campaigns. Programs like the Charles R. Drew Blood Drive and the Assault on Illiteracy demonstrate the fraternity’s commitment to addressing critical issues in the community.
